GMW3172 Vibration Test For Electronic Components

GMW3172 Vibration Test For Electronic Components

GMW3172 vibration test is an important means to evaluate the performance and reliability of automotive parts and systems under vibration. The GMW3172 standard, developed by General Motors to provide uniform vibration testing requirements and guidance for the automotive industry, applies to electrical/electronic (E/E) components in passenger cars or commercial vehicles and trucks, and describes environmental and durability testing of E/E components based on installation location.
This standard includes tests to ensure customer satisfaction with the performance of vehicle E/E components during their service life and exposure to various environmental conditions such as vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, electrical stress and other forces that may occur during manufacturing and transportation.

GMW3172 standard common environmental testing

Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT)
Thermal shock test
Random vibration test
Salt Spray test

Thermal cycle vibration test

The test should verify that the part is not affected by the vibration that occurs in the vehicle. The following vibration tests refer to the installation location and different test conditions for cars, trucks and heavy trucks.
Tables 27 and 28 include the number of vibration hours required when using 6 or 12 samples. This indicates that the test has a minimum confidence of 99% and a confidence of 50% (R99/C50). 6 samples is the minimum sample size allowed. To increase the sample size or consider different reliability requirements, please consult JOEO

Random vibration test

Random vibration test on engine

Purpose: This test shall verify that the component is immune from the effects of vibration when it is located on the engine. Random vibration is used to capture all vibration eftects from piston/valve train higher treguenciesand road-induced vibration (lower frequencies).
Procedure: Use the test methods according to IEC 60068-2-64, Test Fh, Vibration, broad-band random (digital control) and guidance.

On/in transmission vibration test

Purpose: The test shall verify that the component is free from vibration when mounted on or inside the transmission

Random vibration mounting position under hood with sprung mass

Purpose: This test should verify that the part is not affected by vibration when it is located on the spring mass within the area under the hood of the vehicle.

JOEO vibration shaker table, adopted the 'double-magnetic circuit structure',' self-generated skeleton action circles', 'Airborne Support'and 'roller bearings and linear guidance', 'trunnion isolation'advanced modern technology and special technology, can be completed in X,Y,Z threeaxis sinusoidal shaker testing and broadband random vibration tests, to be completed by the classical (half - sine, trapezoidal, saw tooth wave) pulse and shock response spectrum test.
As a certified vibration specialist, JOEO is recognized as one of the best vibration testing companies in the country. Our capabilities include testing to commercial and military vibration test standards, please contact us.
