ASTM B368 Salt Spray (CASS Test) /Fog Testing
ASTM B368 Standard Test Method for Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt Spray (Fog) Testing (CASS Test)Scope:
This test method prescribes the conditions required in copper-accelerated acetic acid-salt spray (CASS) testing for specification purposes. The standard does not specify the type of test specimen or exposure periods to be used for a specific product, nor the interpretation to be given to the results

4.1 CASS test equipment includes a salt spray test machine, a salt solution storage tank, compressed air supply device, one or more atomizing nozzles, sample support rack, test chamber heating device, and necessary control devices.
4.2 Salt spray testing equipmentmeets the requirements of this test, the basic structure of the test chamber is described in the appendix to ASTM B117. For CASS tests, the typical pressure requirement is 0.08~0.12Mpa at 60~65℃.
4.3 Droplets gathered on the top of the test chamber should not drop on the sample, and droplets that drop off the sample should not be returned to the reservoir for reuse.
4.4 The material of the test chamber should not affect the effect of salt spray corrosion, and the material should be corrosion-resistant.
5. Test solution
5.1 5 parts of salt dissolved in 95 parts of water, the use of water should meet the requirements of TYPEIV in ASTM D 1193, sodium chloride should be ACS grade solution pH value measured at 25℃ should be 6.0 ~ 7.0, there should be no suspended solids before atomization.
5.2 Add 0.25gCuClz.2H20 per liter of solution and dissolve carefully.
5.3 The pH value of the copper salt solution is adjusted by glacial acetic acid, and the collected solution should be measured at 3.1~3.3 at 25℃.
